Quick Start

Students will gain the confidence they need to take the next step by strengthening their skills in reading, writing, maths and computers in a supportive environment. Our Quick Start classes are friendly, fun and innovative, with everyone made to feel comfortable. Students can come as they are, and leave with what they need.

This programme is for those who:

  • Have been away from learning for a while.
  • Have always wanted to improve their writing, reading or maths skills.
  • Want to help their children with their reading and maths.
  • Want to achieve their learner drivers licence.
  • Want to learn basic computer skills.
  • Want to gain skills to assist them to move to other training programmes to gain a qualification.

Graduates of this course can pathway into either further career-oriented courses or employment.

Hamilton | 6 Weeks | Monday to Thursday | 9:00 am to 2:30 pm

WHAT WILL YOU LEARN
  • Reading, writing and maths skills.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • CV and cover letter creation to assist with employment.
  • Number skills, calculations, and budgeting.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
  • For students aged 16+ (15 year old students can apply with an MOE exemption)
  • If the learner has fewer than 80 credits (or equivalent) on the NZ Qualification Framework (NZQF); OR If the learner has more than 80 credits (or equivalent) on the NZQF, and the learner has fewer than 12 credits in literacy and/or numeracy in unit standards and/or achievement standards (or equivalent); OR
    If the learner is assessed using the Literacy and Numeracy for Adults Assessment Tool (LNAAT) and presents at Step 1 or 2 on the Learning Progressions for reading and/or numeracy
  • Students must be an NZ Citizen or Resident

Note: There may, from time to time, be some instances when a learner is enrolled into the programme as they meet the some steps in the criteria, but it is found when tested on the LNAAT they are outside of the criteria.If that occurs they would have to be withdrawn from ILN.
